Hope Came Knocking

A diagnosis of kidney failure brings on a wave of emotions. Fear, sadness, anger, frustration, disbelief, anxiety, and depression are common – not to mention the uncertainty and stress about the future and the necessary changes in lifestyle and medical care. It is essential for the person to seek support from their loved ones, medical team, and mental health professionals to manage these emotions so they can navigate the system.

Having a trusted healthcare team is essential in managing kidney failure. Healthcare professionals play a big role by providing education on treatment options and offer strategies for managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

When John Monts learned that his kidneys were failing, and that he needed to go on dialysis he knew that this would be the biggest challenge of his life. With the help of his U.S. Renal Care clinic team in Maryland, John began dialysis and was educated on transplantation. He began his search for a kidney. Hope came knocking on his door one day, and a family member had a life-changing offer for him – a kidney.

Watching this selfless act of kindness left me speechless and overwhelmed with gratitude. The transplant was successful, and John’s health improved dramatically. Life is truly unpredictable, but kindness and hope can make all the difference.
